Established in 1986, Childline KwaZulu-Natal was started by a group of dedicated volunteers in response to the growing number of child sexual abuse cases being reported at Addington Hospital in Durban.
What began as a small group of people determined to make a difference has grown into a national Childline network, with Childline services now available in every province, supported by a national governing office.
Childline KwaZulu-Natal is also part of the Child Helpline International Network, connecting us to child helplines across the world and strengthening our ability to share knowledge, learn from others and advocate for children.
Our 24/7 toll-free number, 116, is the regional Child Helpline number used across Africa, giving children and families a trusted and accessible way to reach out for help, support and protection.
Childline remains committed to protecting children, supporting families and giving every child a voice.
Our mission is to protect and empower children, prevent child abuse and provide support to children and families in need.
Through our 24/7 helpline, therapeutic services, education and awareness programmes, and community-based support, we work to ensure that every child is heard, protected and given the opportunity to grow in a safe and caring environment.
Every child’s safety and wellbeing comes first.
We listen, care and respond without judgement.
We act with honesty, accountability and professionalism.
We value the dignity and rights of every child.
We help children find their voice and understand their rights.
We work together to create lasting change.
Childline KwaZulu-Natal is committed to strong, transparent and accountable governance. Our Board members are volunteers, each bringing their own area of expertise and speciality to strengthen the organisation. They provide oversight, guidance and support, oversee our operations and ensure financial accountability, helping us remain focused on our mission and serve children and communities with integrity.
