COUNSELLOR TRAINING COURSE AT CHILDLINE
Childline is offering a 8 day generic training counselling course which forms the basis of participation in the various programmes offered by Childline, such as Community Awareness and Education, Court preparation and support and the Provincial Toll free Crisisline.
The content of the course includes Self growth and awareness, Crisis counselling, Interviewing skills, Crisis intervention model, Trauma counselling, HIV/AIDS, Children’s rights and responsibilities, Communicating with children, Dealing with disclosures of abuse, Working within a multidisciplinary team, Forms of abuse, Signs and symptoms, Conducting education and awareness programmes.
Upon completion of the course you have the option of either volunteering your services to Childline, on the 24/7 Toll free Crisisline or applying the acquired skills in your current workplace.
The course will be held at the Childline offices, 123 Percy Osborne Road, Morningside, early next year. EXHIBITIONS
Childline KZN Childline KZN participated in the National Science Week Expo at the Old Mutual MTN ScienCentre. The Learners were handed with posters, stickers, pamphlets and rulers. Melanie Govender gave a talk to learners attending National Science Week. The learners seemed quite interested and participated in the questions being asked by Melanie. The Childline KZN stand brought learners &teachers who came forward with many questions and wanting to Volunteer at Childline.
ABI GOLF DAY – 10 APRIL 2008
ABI held a golf day to raise much needed funds for the organization.
CHILD PROTECTION WEEK - LAST WEEK OF MAY & FIRST WEEK OF JUNE
Staff dedicated their time from 7am to 8am in the morning to campaign for children`s rights. Staff took the initiative of making their own posters and handed out flyers and stickers at the Umgeni robots. The campaign was extremely successful and encouraged staff teamwork.
DONORS EVENING 3 June 2008
The Mc for the evening was Dave Guselli from ECR. Deon De Wilzem Sang to the tunes of Josh Groban and some awesome songs, he also controlled the sound. Spider Boys caught the guests attention as they were the highlight of the evening. Dave Guselli was quite an auctioneer when he auctioned off 10 oil paintings. The Donors were given awards, certificates and treated to an awesome dinner with desert.
PDNA GOLF DAY 3 July 2008
PDNA raised R45 000 at their golf day towards Childline KZN with the encouragement from Mr Seelan Pather who suggested that PDNA raise funds for Chidlline KZN.

ABSA OPEN DAY 2008
Absa held their open day for the staff children on 4 July 2008. They had talks and entertainement. The sharks were there signing their autographs.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION AND CITIES SUMMIT HELD AT THE ICC – 21 – 25 JULY 2008
OUR EDUCATION PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR REPRESENTED CHILDLINE KZN AS A DELEGATE AT THE SUMMIT AND 2 VOLUNTEERS MARKETED OUR STAND AT THE EVENT.
DURBAN GIRLS HIGH EXPO – 26 JULY 2008
A Volunteer promoted Childline at the expo held at the school and funds raised from the stands were given to Childline KZN. Cartblanche was there to film the expo and childline KZN may be in the video.
ABH FAIR 2008
Volunteer promoting Childline KZN services at the ABH Fair held from 30 July to 1 August 2008.

WOMEN`S DAY 2008
Staff decided to spend time together by having a bring and share. They were given a Women`s Day poems and a little token.

AGM 2008

Childline KZN`s AGM was held at the Durban Botanic Gardens on 10 September 2008. The event commenced with the National Anthem which was sung by Childline KZN staff. Sinethemba dance group rendered a zulu dance item and our guests were given a presentation on " Trafficking and Child Sex Tourism- Preparation for 2010" There were speeches by the Director of Childline KZN, The Chairman of the Board and the Treasurer. The meeting ended with light refreshments.
KIDS UNLIMITED EXPO:
Childline KZN participated in the Kids Unlimited Expo from 24 September to
28 September 2008. We were given a free stand at the Expo by the organizers and we presented puppet shows daily at the expo, which was a highlight to the public. Our PR students represented Childline KZN at the expo. The children participated in finger painting, colouring in, drawing and playdough activities. The adults were informed about the work we do at Childline and were given pamphlets.

CORETALK PROGRAMME
The Coretalk programme proved to be a feasible communication link where messages of healing, notification of appointments and invitations are SMS’d to clients and donors.
NEWSLETTER
The quarterly Newsletter was developed and highlighted the effects of the load shedding on the 24/7 Crisis Line. The Provincial Crisis Counselling Helpline. The newsletter was distributed to the public, donors and other funders.
